Hi

I have been following several other "halo" wearers blogs, they have all put up pictures. Well its my turn.

This picture was taken after the halo was put on and the drugs wore off. I was happy, mainly to see a friend and be done with the dreaded procedure.

I would like to publicly thank everyone for their thoughts and suggestions, life is getting better.

I am almost done with my first 2 weeks, I have as many as 10 more to go, I am hoping to be done with the halo in 6 weeks.. Wish me luck!!!

  3. Great news! Two weeks is a milestone. You look good and I am so glad you are getting help with this.

Maintain a calcium and vitamin D rich diet. I hope you don't smoke. Smokers heal slower. I wish you luck with your six week goal!

  4. Sue, you might get lucky! I was unexpectedly released after 9 weeks (that's better than 12..) I don't know the nature of your fracture, but mine was an unstable C2 fracture,(hangmans's), and it was healed enough to remove the halo and replace it with the rigid collar. I will publish a post on the removal of the halo tomorrow. I may even post a picture of me "sans" halo. I'll have to sleep on that decision first though:) I hope you have a comfortable sleep. Take care.

  5. Yes, I wish you luck with that time line. I believe it is truly possible.

However, Jan's nurse practitioner was a real winner and would not even entertain a CT scan any earlier than 12 weeks. I even had to argue about the difference between 3 months and 12 weeks! That is why she transferred to the actual neurosurgeon instead of the NP. She was NOT helpful and did not care what happened to my wife.

The neurosurgeon, by contrast, was very helpful and much more professional than the NP. Jan filed a complaint against her.

Do not accept poor care. You have rights.

Lise, I posted Jan's picture from bar removal to collar install to vest removal. I hope other halo users will find it informative. I could find no useful halo information when Jan was going through this and so documented the process real time as much as possible.
